Is there an admission fee to attend the Race?
Attendance is free for spectators.
The race registration fee is $300/team of 5 and includes: a copy of the team photo taken on race day courtesy of Wendy’s and a water bottle courtesy of Wiband for each team member.
Under what circumstances would the event be cancelled?
The race will be cancelled in the event of extreme cold weather (combined temperature and wind chill of -30). We will strive to provide 24 hours advance notice. Notification of cancellation will appear on the website under Race Day Info.
Where do I park?
General parking at The Forks, which may require payment. There is no designated parking for the race event.
Is this a family event?
Absolutely, the Wild Winter Canoe Race is an event for the whole family! New in 2019, is the SnowTube Fam Jam! A snowtube race for all family members. See details on our website.
However, you have to be 18 years and older to participate on a canoe race team.
Do we need to supply our own canoe?
No – race canoes will be provided by race organizers.
How do I register a team?
Register through our website. Registration deadline is Feb.12/19.
What are the rules of the race?
What if I forget to bring my signed waiver?
Blank waivers will be available at the Registration Desk at Shaw Park. Government-issued photo identification is mandatory.
Will teams have a chance to practice prior to the race?
Yes, there will be an opportunity to practice on the course with our canoes on Sunday, February 3 and Saturday, February 9 at 1:30 to 3:30pm. Team Captains need to book a time slot in advance by contacting the Team Recruitment Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Who do teams need to notify if they need to withdraw?
If your team has to withdraw from the race, the Team Captain is responsible for contacting the Race Team Recruitment Coordinator (email@example.com) as soon as possible. There is a waitlist of teams anxious to be included.
This looks like a physically challenging event and I am not a super athlete. Will it be too hard for me?
Winter canoe racing is a workout – but don’t forget that you are part of a team, working together and enjoying a fun, new winter sport.
What is the refund policy?
In the unlikely event of cancellation or postponement of this event due to circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the charities or the organizing committee of the Wild Winter Canoe Race, including but not limited to, safety, weather, or similar concerns, the charities and the Wild Winter Canoe Race organizing committee shall not be held responsible for any cost, damage, or expense which may be incurred by registrants as a consequence of this event being postponed or cancelled. It is further understood that the charities and the Wild Winter Canoe Race will incur significant upfront costs in organizing this event, and it is acknowledged and agreed and that the registration fee being paid is NON-REFUNDABLE.
